HISTORY OF POST 199:

Originally a subdivision of Post 99 in Foley (which was founded in 1919), the Eastern Shore Post 199 received a second and separate charter on January 11, 1963.  There were 365 regular charter members and 122 Auxiliary members who kept the separated post on the fast track.  In the mid and late 1960's there were almost 900 regular members and over 200 Auxiliary members.  The current post home and land was purchased with a loan and member donations in the 1920s.  The property is approximately 3.5 acres with 340' beach frontage on Mobile Bay.  In addition to the three story structure (housing the club bar, hall and kitchen), there is a large BBQ shed and storage building, Beach Stage, Tiki Bar and a 400' pier reaching into Mobile Bay.  Fishing, crabbing and boating from the beach and pier is a yearlong activity.
